Monthly Client Report Template for Consultants and Fractional Executives

A reusable monthly report template: hours worked, deliverables completed, metrics moved, risks flagged, and next month's plan — ready to adapt.

Every consultant and fractional executive faces the same monthly ritual: prove the value. Here's a battle-tested report structure that takes under an hour — or minutes if your data is already organized.

The Universal Structure

### 1. Month in Review (Executive Summary) Two to four sentences. Overall status, headline result, anything needing client attention. Write this last, put it first.

### 2. Time Investment Hours logged vs. contracted, broken down by activity type. Clients on retainers want to see their hours were used — and used well:

  • Strategy and planning: 8h
  • Execution and deliverables: 18h
  • Meetings and communication: 6h
  • Total: 32h / 40h contracted

### 3. Deliverables Status Every committed deliverable with status and date:

  • Q4 Operating Plan — delivered Oct 2
  • Vendor Renegotiation — in progress, on track for Oct 20
  • Hiring Scorecard — at risk, blocked on comp data

### 4. Metrics That Moved 3-6 KPIs with before/after and one-line explanations. Only include metrics tied to your engagement — vanity metrics dilute credibility.

### 5. Risks and Blockers What threatens the engagement's goals. Being early and honest here is what separates trusted advisors from vendors.

### 6. Next Month Committed priorities, deliverables, and anything you need from the client.

Rules That Make Reports Get Read

  • Under 2 pages. Nobody reads a 10-page monthly report. Link to details if needed.
  • Same format every month. Consistency lets clients scan the changes.
  • Numbers before narrative. Data earns the right to tell the story.
  • Deliver on the same day monthly. Reliability is part of the product.

The 5-Minute Version

If your hours, deliverables, and metrics already live in one system, this report writes itself. Fraxo generates exactly this structure automatically — pulling your tracked sessions, deliverable statuses, and synced business metrics into an AI-drafted report you review and send. Clients get consistent, data-backed updates; you get your Friday afternoon back.
